Enviromics: bridging different sources of data, building one framework

Abstract: Enviromics is the field of applied data science that integrates databases environmental factors into biostatistics and quantitative genetics. It can leverage plant ecophysiology knowledge to bridge gaps about environment interactions with systems biology (genes, transcripts, proteins, metabolites), which also boosts ability understand model phenotypic plasticity main agronomic traits. Recently, breeding community has experienced reduced costs for acquiring sensors be installed in trials while increasing reliability resolution remote sensing techniques. The combination those two started spring enviromics-aided recent years. However, use information not a novelty approach developed few years ago, but core efforts originated last 60 years, yet some basic ideas traced back early 20th century attempts establish relationship between variation. This review highlights concepts surrounding construction “modern enviromics science”, tracing its origins decades. Finally, we present how this helped integrate different sources prediction-based models or build one framework.
